North Miami is located in north Miami-Dade County. Early on the settlement would be known as Arch Creek but eventually would become North Miami.

The city's parks and recreation department manages 11 public parks, 2 swimming pools, one of which is the site of a wet-tot-lot, 8 tot-lots and 3 tennis court facilities. North Miami also offers a multitude of programs and classes for young children, teens, adults, and seniors in the areas of art, music, health, gymnastics, sports, and special seasonal and holiday programs. The City organizes and supports a number of community events including the Winternational Parade, the Miss North Miami Scholarship Pageant, and Independence Day celebrations.

North Miami residents and visitors enjoy a variety of leisure and recreational activities such as taking a walk along the bay, spending an afternoon at the Enchanted Forest Elaine Gordon Park (a 22-acre natural oak hammock), visiting the Oleta River State Recreation Area, dining in style at one of the many home-style or gourmet restaurants, or simply relaxing at one of its charming and cozy downtown coffee houses.

There are many attractions to enjoy in and around the city including: The Joan Lehman Museum of contemporary Art a 22,000 square-foot state-of-the-art facility designed by the internationally renowned architectural firm of Gwathmey-Siegel. Just to the south is Miami Beach with its fashionable entertainment and dining. North Miami is right in the middle of it all, offering world class nightlife restaurants and boutiques. Just a short drive away is Coconut Grove, Downtown Miami and The Miami International Airport. North Miami also offers proximity to a host of recreational activities including: Countless art museums and cultural attractions, Metrozoo, Parrot Jungle and Gardens, the Miami Museum of science and Planetarium and the brand New Miami Children's Museum.
